Capacity building in Air, Space and Telecommunications Law: 1-12 February 2016, Pretoria

The Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa in the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria (UP) in collaboration with the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative of the South African Department of Trade and Industry will facilitate capacity building in international air, space and telecommunications law.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa in the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria (UP) in collaboration with the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative of the South African Department of Trade and Industry will facilitate capacity building in international air, space and telecommunications law.  This event offers a unique opportunity for members of the civil service and industry to develop specialized skills in these areas of law.

The capacity building will be directed by a leading international expert in the field, Prof. Dr. Stephan Hobe, LL.M. (McGill), Director of the Institute of Air and Space Law at the University of Cologne, Germany and Extraordinary Professor in the UP Faculty of Law. The capacity building will focus on the legal framework pertaining to international air, space and telecommunications, including the relevant international treaties and their application within the South African context.

COURSE FEE
South African citizens are exempted from course fees. Citizens of other countries have to pay a course fee of R 4500.00. The course fee is payable upon registration. Participants are responsible for their own accommodation and travel arrangements.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The capacity building course is designed for a maximum of 25 highly motivated members of the civil service and industry who deal with legal aspects of air, space and telecommunications law in their daily work. The application procedure is open to both lawyers and non-lawyers from South African and other African countries. Participants will be required to prepare reading material, which will be made available to them electronically in advance. On completion of the course participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Participants will be admitted through a selection procedure. They must submit their Curriculum Vitae together with a letter of motivation to the course coordinator at CE at UP.

The letter of motivation must be limited to 300 words. Participants must please explain their reasons for participation with particular reference to the relevance of the capacity building course for their day to day work.
